NOTE FROM THE CURATOR

EXHIBITION

We are pleased to introduce 13 Nationwide Curating artists and 5 Gallery ONE88 Fine Arts artists in this first ever exhibition to be held at Gallery NWC: St Leonards. This exhibition features a range of outstanding artworks from diverse practitioners exploring predominantly painting and drawing. In this exhibition you will find landscapes, figurative works and abstract pieces, indigenous painting and photography. The exhibition spans the ground floor, two galleries on Level 1 and the Gallery Shopping Nook. We have also recently added three artists from Hare Street Gallery, a Blue Mountains cooperative from Glenbrook, NSW, Alison James, Bronwyn Campbell and Ingrid Russell and you will find their ceramic pieces on L1.

EXHIBITION CONCEPT

The artists featured in this exhibition live in the Hawkesbury, Blue Mountains, Mudgee and the Central Coast in NSW and two from Victoria. Between them, they have had 15 solo exhibitions, courtesy of Nationwide Curating and our corporate partner WOTSO Workspaces, across Pyrmont, Neutral Bay and North Strathfield.

It was important for Nationwide Curating to share our grand opening with our listed artists in this inaugural exhibition and reward those artists who have helped to foster the ongoing success of Nationwide Curating. We have also included 5 artists through our artist-share arrangement with Gallery ONE88 Fine Arts, Katoomba who have also participated in ‘Rotating Exhibitions’ & other exhibition initiatives.

A BIT OF BACKGROUND

Nationwide Curating was formally established in March 2021. We began with just one artist; Douglas Schofield and we now have 22.

The following year we began a corporate partnership with WOTSO Workspaces and currently have 4 galleries across three sites in Pyrmont, Neutral Bay & North Strathfield’s Bakehouse Quarter.

I would like to specifically thank WOTSO Marketing Manager, Alana Gogic for taking a chance on this crazy idea straight off the bat, for your support and enthusiasm for this ongoing project.

Each of these locations were simple common areas which became activated through our transformations into galleries. Spaces which are now hosts to 3-monthly exhibition-rotation cycles. We have held 15 exhibitions in 1 year including our current exhibitions at each site. With all work for sale through a QR code linking to our e-commerce page & regularly held ‘Meet the artist’ events, we truly are gaining momentum and local interest.

Essentially, this partnership enabled the overall vision of Nationwide Curating in our quest to change the way artists are discovered and viewed with a goal to extend their potential for reach & exposure in tandem with virtual technologies.

I would like to therefore thank WOTSO for their part in getting us to this point AND note our partnership is very collaborative as two agile businesses coming together for the community. I would also like to thank each and every artist for giving us a chance to support them in this way.

Furthermore, I acknowledge our 2nd collaboration with Gallery ONE88 Fine Arts in Katoomba, owned and directed by Sharon & Victor Peralta who are also dear friends of ours. An artist-share arrangement means artists receive exhibitions in each of our galleries at zero cost.

Here we are standing in our very first gallery space, holding the recently certified trading name of GALLERY NWC, a name which is also agile and adaptable to other locations.

This more traditional gallery format gives us an office base in the heart of the city in our 2nd year as Nationwide Curating. A great testing ground for the viability of galleries in North Sydney, we will enjoy this space for a minimum of 12 months and are on the lookout for a stellar, permanent gallery thereafter.

GRATITUDE

We would finally like to thank White Rhino Art Space for allowing Nationwide Curating this wonderful opportunity to dip our toe in the wonderful world of Sydney art galleries. Thank you to TWT Property Group and Brand X for creating a wonderful creative precinct for us to become a part of. Thank you to Gallery ONE88 Fine Arts, WOTSO workspaces & Blue Mountains Creative Arts Centre for our ongoing relationships. Finally, thank you to the friends and family members who pitched in to help launch this gorgeous space. We are eternally grateful.
