Pop-art, geometric, hardedge, abstract. This might be what comes to some viewers’ minds when looking at my work but boxes and categories do not reflect the fluidity of my practice.
For me it’s none of the above and all of the above. What drives me is ideas, concepts, philosophy and Buddhism. Human life and nature encompass order and disorder, order and chaos, the yin and yang where there is light in the dark and dark in the light.
The philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche once said, “One must have chaos in oneself to be able to give birth to a dancing star.”
When I observe the patterns and fractals created by nature, I ask myself how it is possible to be so perfect. I’m inspired to understand the infinitely intricate shapes of self-similarity in which the smallest parts resemble the whole.
Currently, my daily practice consists of painting and drawing. I tend to line draw my idea then, when I’m satisfied, I draw it again, this time the same size as the painting. I experiment with colours and start painting. Sometimes I might cut my own stencil and Pochoir paint with brushes, the whole creative process done by hand.
French born, Blue Mountains Australia based, I attended l’ École des Beaux-Arts in Normandy before working as a freelance photographer and audio-visual designer, primarily in Formula One racing circuits.
In Sydney, I worked as a graphic designer at the Royal Botanic Garden. In 1994, I graduated with a Bachelor of Visual Arts [UWS Nepean] and have had many solo and group exhibitions as well as being finalist in a few art awards.
