Milngurr

My homelands are in the Northern Territory, North East Arnhem Land, community of Yirrkala, in Australia. My language/Group is yolngu and my clan group is Rirratjingu. 

I work at Buku-Larrnggay Mulka Art Centre. I go out bush to collect Stringy Bark Tree for women, men and elders so they can do their paintings on the bark. I collect my own Didgeridoo (Yidaki) and sometimes I paint the Didgeridoo (Yidaki). I can also do print work at Buku and have workshops for kids both Indigenous and non-indigenous to teach them culture, passing down knowledge, taking them out bush to teach them how to cut / collect stringy bark Tree. I also welcome tourists to the art centre playing the Didgeridoo (Yidaki). I go with my work Buku sometimes to Garma Festival yothu yindi Foundation, I have also been in a band before called east Journey and also king stingray playing the Didgeridoo (yidaki).

I have a Family connection to NSW and the Darug language/Group and I have joined their Dance Clan 'Jannawi Dance' clan. The Business is my sisters company Peta Strachan. We perform to show and teach/share Indigenous culture. We dance (Bungul) sing (Manikay) and we also play the Didgeridoo (Yidaki) together.

I recently moved to NSW with my wife, we met at my work Buku-Larrnggay Mulka Art centre, she is an amazing  photographer and takes beautiful photos of me and my family. She is now a part of yolgnu & Darug people.

NATIONWIDE CURATING

We are very pleased to introduce artist and performer Djuwakan Jeremy Marika to our supporters. Jeremy lives between Western Sydney NSW (Darug) and will be returning to his homelands of the Northern Territory, north east Arnhem Land to produce new artworks. These pieces will be available through our website and are intended for an exhibition with his photographer wife Amanda Gunston (details to follow).
