My printmaking techniques include single layer and hand-coloured relief prints, jigsaw method colour prints and multilayer colour prints. The making of a multilayer colour woodblock print is a slow and challenging art form. An edition usually takes a few months to create due to planning, block preparation, and the drying of each of the ink layers. The painterly effect of my multilayer prints is achieved by building up ten to twenty layers of ink, this requires an accurate overlaying of the block and an insight into how colours react when layered over. My colour works use multiblock and or reduction blocks. One of the biggest challenges for me in this process, is that well known landscape and landforms like Mount Solitary and the Three Sisters require all the drawing, carving and inking to be done in mirror image in order for the finished art print to show the landscape as it is. When I print the work I often find myself asking, “is the mountain the right way around?”. I developed my multilayer printmaking technique from Western and Eastern methods. The Western aspect is that I use rollers to ink the block and traditional Western relief ink. The Eastern influence is that my work uses water-based ink, traditional Japanese printmaking paper and I handprint using a baren rather than a press. I am currently working on a Mount Solitary series and a Three Sisters series.

PLEASE NOTE

Once an item has been selected and a transaction has taken place, Nationwide Curating staff will contact the buyer to arrange for postage, collection or personal delivery.
