ABOUT THE ARTIST

Sydney, NSW, Australia

Deanne Palmer has been honing her skills in encaustic art for several years and although  originally an oil painter, she finds that the versatility of techniques and translucent qualities of this beeswax medium compliment her layered and textural style. The eco-friendly ingredients of encaustic paint also resonate with her concern for the care and preservation of our natural world.

Exploring strength and beauty in the process of healing and repair is celebrated in Deanne’s current body of work, where imperfection can be seen and understood for its true value. The Japanese art of kintsukuroi, “golden repair”, is based on a philosophy that treats breakage and repair as part of the history of an object, rather than something to disguise. Deanne’s paintings and sculptural vessels, address the concept of repair work in our own stories. She believes, “Incandescence is the light within, often radiating from the darkest of places. It comes from a place of resilience, love and hope.”

Deanne was a finalist in the Greenway Art Prize 2021 and a finalist in Global Warming is REAL juried exhibition, New Mexico, USA, 2021.

Deanne's current practice spans encaustic painting and sculpture as well as teaching and mentoring adult and young artists at her Sydney studio, Limelight Studios Gladesville.

Deanne Palmer has worked in various areas of the visual arts industry since 1980, while practicing as an artist and continues exhibiting in group and solo shows throughout Australia.

She completed the Art Diploma at St George and Meadowbank TAFE and the Screen Printing Trade course at Sydney TAFE.
