ABOUT THE SPONSOR
Created by media professionals Lisa Doust and Wilamina Russo, The Astute Artist has been expressly designed to assist artists in functioning more professionally, attracting the attention of industry professionals and selling their art far and wide. Whether you are looking to run a successful side hustle or ultimately want to become a full-time artist, this course is for you.
Working at your own pace, in six steps you will learn how to transform your art practice into a viable small business. As well as the basics, such as identifying the right industry pathway and your key strengths, we will guide you through setting up your art business efficiently, writing quality content and ensuring you are ready for any gallery or media opportunities that arise.
Each lesson will take around an hour. By the end of the course, you will be ready to present yourself as a professional artist and small-business operator who is set to seize every opportunity that comes your way.
We understand that you may already be across some elements of our six lessons, so we’ve given you the option to either complete the full course or choose the half that best suits your current needs. It may be that you’re starting completely from scratch or you’re already operating as a small business but need some guidance before taking the next step. Either way, if you’ve been procrastinating for a while, consider the wise words of Confucius: ‘You can’t build a reputation on what you’re going to do.’
LISA DOUST: CO-JUDGE - MINI ART PRIZE 2024
Lisa Doust is an Australian journalist with vast and varied writing, editing, publishing, social media and marketing experience across multiple print and digital platforms. She also has an absolute passion for art.
In 2019, after relocating from the Blue Mountains back to Sydney with a view to expanding her career options, Lisa decided to take a sideways step by managing the business and media side of things for her sister, renowned still life artist Melanie Vugich.
Over the past four years, the pair have worked closely to ensure Melanie’s profile has been significantly raised, the galleries and art dealers she works with are a perfect fit, all deadlines are met and her collectors are kept up to date with upcoming exhibitions, collaborations and all relevant news.
By utilising her skills in new and creative ways, Lisa has forged an exciting new career path and discovered how to assist artists in becoming as professional and prepared as possible for successfully operating a small business.
