Shirley says about this series: 'I am currently painting landscapes from around my home. They start as small ‘en plein air' works, then become large studio-completed paintings. I am motivated by the changing weather patterns effecting the area around Mulgoa, on the outskirts of Sydney. After five years of drought and annual fires, the rains came. And it rained for three years! I painted the flowing water and floods that occurred in my backyard, as well as observing the famous falls in the Blue Mountains.'
