ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
Anne Spencer conveys movement and energy in her work. Even pieces calmer in palette are unified by a sense of the 'artists'-hand'—A fluidity that many artists admire and attempt to achieve in their own practices. This exhibition is devoid of the demure style of artwork that those wanting to 'play it safe' would ordinarily achieve. Instead, Anne's artworks are always bold, they demand attention and generally stand on their own merits. In this exhibition you will experience showstopper, individual feature artworks—with the exception of a quartet of small square paintings on board which work as a series.
Anne has produced a range of artworks and methods of presentation including framed artworks with and without glass, paintings on board & heavy archival-paper and stretched canvases. Anne's kind and honest nature are reflected in her work. We appreciate Anne's wonderful contribution to the arts and more specifically to this exhibition in Neutral Bay.

ABOUT THE ARTIST - ARTIST STATEMENT
“An artist thinks with a brush in his (her) hand.” Wolf Kahn
My artworks are abstracted visions of what I can see and not see! My work is not representational as I am not trying to imitate nature but to create my own reality from what inspires me. I understand the land, so I think this comes through in my work, yet much of what I see comes from pictures in my mind. I love paint. I love colour, line, shapes and the arabesque! I draw with paint. I like movement, emotion, freedom and the process of painting.
