ABOUT THE ARTIST
‘I love tapestry weaving. I love the quality of the lines, the pixelated and textured effects, and the ability to mix and blend thin strands of colour to achieve different shades. My current work is inspired by local landscapes in the Blue Mountains. My recent prints are scaled down life drawings printed from photopolymer plates.' Susie Summers.
Susie Summers is a tapestry artist and printmaker based in the Blue Mountains.
Susie is a graduate of Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee, where she specialised in constructed textiles/fine art tapestry and printmaking.
Tapestry is one of the oldest forms of woven textile. They’re constructed by weaving coloured weft threads through plain warp threads, stretched around a frame.
Larger pieces take several months to complete. Solid blocks can be woven quite easily, but small, intricate sections with lots of colour changes take much longer.
