ABOUT THE ARTIST
Patrizia Biondi is a Blue Mountains-based, multi-disciplinary visual artist whose practice pivots around the transformation of salvaged materials. Through labour-intensive processes, Patrizia transforms recovered materials such as paper, cardboard, plastic, glass, timber, and ceramics into thought-provoking sculptural works that examine environmental and socio-political themes.
Raised in Italy during a time of upheaval and significant socio-political changes, Patrizia’s work reflects on the contradictions within environmental art and the impacts of consumer-driven waste. With these social concerns at its core, Biondi’s practice challenges perceptions of materiality, sustainability and meaning in contemporary art.
Patrizia Biondi is currently a PhD candidate in Visual Arts at the University of Sydney. Her
research focuses on the possibility that environmental sustainability, under current economic conditions, could be impossible
