ARTIST BIO
Bonnie Exley is an emerging textile artist, designer and painter, living and working in Sydney, Australia.
Exley’s practice currently focusses around her passion and skill for weaving. Over the past decade, she has self-taught a number of skills on a floor loom, and has expanded her practice through extensive experimentation. Primarily interested in wearable art design and production, Exley harnesses her innate fascination with and knowledge of colour and pattern to conceptualise unique wearable pieces, and is currently broadening her practice through an expansion of knowledge with regard to machine sewing techniques in order to develop a new and exciting series of decorative wearable pieces.
Exley’s signature decorative aesthetic spans multiple mediums, and is noticeable within her drawing and painting works which often feature complex, highly patterned designs. Recently, her weaving skills and signature patterning has guided her practice into mixed-media and sculptural pieces.
Her inspirations stem from a number of sources, including artists, performers and musicians.
