Glacier (2020)

Luke Abdallah - Acrylic primer, sculpt-a-mold modelling paste and impasto on plywood artboard. 30.5cm x 30.5cm

ABOUT GLACIER

Glacier is completely white in colour, with shades appearing only through lighting hitting the varied textures of the piece. Luke’s audience is encouraged to touch this work, as he wishes for his audience to experience the work in the same way that he does. Luke has utilised a combination of sculpt-a-mold and impasto to create high ridges, using his hands to pinch sections of the fiberous material together, mimicking an arial view of an ice filled landscape.

(This work has previously exhibited as part of 'Push & Pull. Stroke & Stab' at Goodspace Gallery, Chippendale. Dec 1st 2021 and ARTiculate Festival at 107 Projects, Green Square. May 2022)

ABOUT LUKE

Luke Abdallah is an emerging artist, living and working in Sydney, Australia. Focusing primarily on expressive, abstract painting, Abdallah employs a multitude of tools and techniques to apply paint in swathes of texture and colour. Entranced in his artistic process, Abdallah’s gestural paint strokes capture his actions and movement, forming a rich tapestry of rhythmic energy.

Born totally blind and living with elective mutism, Abdallah incorporates multi-sensory inspiration into his works, often drawing expressiveness from a myriad of stimuli - sound, smell, texture, vibration and taste.

Keenly aware of the importance of accessible practice, Abdallah invites his audience to enjoy his works both by sight and by touch.
