This work is a small combination of forged/fabricated. The two balancing parts are drawn (heated and hammered) from solid square bar. Going from precise machine made square to hand hammered. The round base is made from things picked up over the years. Although the title is Balance7 I have made quite a few balancing works. They are a lot of fun and freedom after, say, a difficult and precise balustrade.

Artist Biography

I was born in northern England and came to Australia in the early 1980’s.

My interest in metalwork and in particular forging/blacksmithing began as a child. There was a blacksmith in my village and the fire was fascinating.

I am a cyclist and one of my first jobs in Australia was as a bicycle mechanic. I progressed from this to building custom bike frames – metal and fire.

For the last 30 years I have concentrated on forging and a little bit of fabrication both sculptural and architectural work.
