ABOUT THE WORK
This work is part of a broader series 'Social Drought & Excavating I' which continues Katherine's exploration of tensions between her internal and external world. The continued juggle of professional and domestic landscapes and the difficulties and the joy in navigating sudden change to either environment.
The term 'excavation' for Katherine is synonymous with both the literal and metaphysical. Potentiality becomes actuality as Katherine moves earth to discover natural treasures buried beneath. This journey reveals hidden truths for Katherine who creates mostly from a place of 'disquiet'. In body of work, you will find tensions between light and dark, wet and dry and a childlike love of discovery and tinkering. As a divergent creative, Katherine often moves between painting, assemblages of found objects, unique lamp designs, photography, printmaking, performance and installation and whatever she feels best describes the feeling she is grappling to capture at the time. This varied approach to arts practice is representative of Katherine's navigation of a continued theme though through the lens of a tumultuous 2019-2020, again in 2025 to present day.
