ABOUT THE ARTIST
I am a Chinese adoptee raised by white parents in NZ.
I consider and challenge the centuries-old, western tradition of Chinoiserie with my own narrative. My ceramic works are adapted from traditional Chinese temple and altar vessels in a variety of white and buff clays that echo historical Sancai and celadon wares. My blue and white pieces are painted freehand using cobalt oxide - the original blue minimal painted on Chinese porcelain. My designs have evolved from traditional Chinese motifs and modern Australiana.
