ABOUT THE ARTIST
Influenced by a lifelong fascination with marine landscapes and encountering the
natural world in its different states Deanne Palmer’s work typically explores proactivity
taken for environmental restoration across the globe. Bathed in light and colour, her
encaustic paintings and sculptures examine the diversity of sensations experienced as
well as conveying the essence of the scene. Deanne invites viewers to engage with
beauty that conceals deeper ecological challenges.
Although originally an oil painter, Deanne has been honing her skills in painting and
sculpture using encaustic medium for the past several years. She makes most of her
own encaustic medium and finds the versatility of techniques and translucent qualities
of this beeswax-based material compliment her layered and textural style. The eco
friendly and archival ingredients resonate with her concern for sustainability and
conservation.
Deanne’s current focus is on the expansion and development of unique encaustic
techniques to enhance translucency and textural scope of sculptural forms while
maintaining structural integrity and sustainability.
Deanne has worked in the visual arts industry since 1980, maintaining her commitment
as an artist. She teaches and mentors adults and young artists from her Gladesville,
Sydney studio, which she established in 2008 and continues to exhibit in group and
solo shows throughout Australia and overseas.
