Artwork Statement: Soft Edges (Guiding the Fall).
I’m concerned that the drought is returning to the Blue Mountains.
The thick undergrowth is thinning out, making tree trunks are more visible.
The light flow in the waterfalls allows the rock patterns to be exposed.
I enjoy painting both, but hope that the heavy rains return.
ARTIST STATEMENT
I am currently painting landscapes from around my home. They start as small ‘en plein air' works, then become large studio-completed paintings. I am motivated by the changing weather patterns effecting the area around Mulgoa, on the outskirts of Sydney. After five years of drought and annual fires, the rains came. And it rained for three years! I painted the flowing water and floods that occurred in my backyard, as well as observing the famous falls in the Blue Mountains.
